JMW Architects in collaboration with Nederlandse Bouw Unie (NBU) won the design competition for Noorderstrand Nesselande Rotterdam. The project, called ‘Strand Noord’, exists of 15 beachhouses, 6 shorehouses and 9 watervilla’s. Besides, 25 apartments with 95m² to 155m² of livingspace, will be realized in an apartment building called ‘The Pavilion’.
‘Strand Noord’ is located directly to the beach of the Zevenhuizerplas at the extreme north of the Kretalaan. A boulevard next to the beach guides to a square where ‘The Pavilion’ forms a landmark at the head of the beach. From this square, a spectacular view over the Zevenhuizerplas and the Eendragtspolder is given.
All private gardens are oriented towards south-west or are designed directly above the watersurface. Each house is incorporated in a cohesive water and dune landscape, which flows around the buildings. The landscape clearly contributes to the identity of Strand Noord Nesselande. The used architecture fits seamlessly to the unique beach feeling that belongs to this place.
Strand Noord characterizes itself by its small-scale architecture which contributes to variation and diversity in the total plan. All houses have a high quality and sustainable level of detailing.
